2BHK Residence at Chembur, Mumbai
A warm home shaped through layered textures and subtle detailing
This residence focuses on creating a comfortable and inviting environment through a mix of materials and finishes. Walls and surfaces are treated as key elements to introduce depth, while the overall palette ensures visual continuity. The design balances practicality with character, resulting in a home that feels both cohesive and lived-in.

The Chembur residence was envisioned as a minimal and grounded urban home, designed within a compact layout while maintaining a sense of openness and calm. The brief focused on creating a space that feels warm, earthy, and clutter-free, avoiding excessive panelling or bold colour contrasts.

Materiality is kept restrained and intentional. A neutral palette forms the base, complemented by wooden finishes that introduce warmth and character across the home. Wooden flooring in one of the bedrooms enhances the tactile experience, while textured paint on select walls replaces heavy panelling, allowing the space to feel lighter and more breathable within a tight budget.
The living area is designed to feel open yet defined, with a subtle curved ceiling detail that adds softness and visual flow without overwhelming the space. A dedicated mandir is integrated within the living zone, finished with pressed veneer and metallic PU, creating a refined focal point. The addition of a hanging bell and focused lighting enhances the spiritual and aesthetic presence of the corner.

The kitchen, being compact, is designed with efficiency and clarity in mind. Beige laminates form the primary surface, paired with minimal wooden niches to maintain continuity with the overall material palette while ensuring the space remains visually uncluttered.

In the private areas, the design focuses on creating a sense of comfort and openness despite spatial constraints. The master bedroom features a handleless wardrobe with a push-to-open mechanism, maintaining a clean and seamless look. A fluted glass profile shutter is introduced to break the monotony and subtly enhance the perception of space..

The second bedroom is designed with a more expressive yet balanced approach. A custom headboard combining wooden framing with fabric inserts adds depth and warmth, while a long mirror placed strategically enhances the visual scale of the room. A semi-open niche near the wardrobe is created to avoid a boxed-in feel at the entry, styled with a plant and spotlight to reinforce the earthy design language.

Lighting plays a crucial role in maintaining consistency throughout the home. Warm lighting (3000K) is used across living and bedroom spaces to create a comfortable ambiance, while the kitchen uses cooler lighting (4000K) for functionality, and bathrooms are treated with brighter white light for clarity.
The overall design focuses on simplicity, proportion, and thoughtful detailing. Instead of relying on heavy elements, the space achieves its character through subtle material transitions, controlled lighting, and a cohesive palette — resulting in a home that feels calm, functional, and quietly refined.
